Chiropractic Manipulation Techniques

Activator Methods

Activator Methods utilizes a specially designed hand-held instrument that delivers a precise and controlled dynamic thrust to effect the adjustment. The technique also utilizes a system of leg checks to determine the exact spinal level of subluxation.

Diversified Technique

Diversified Technique is perhaps the most widely practiced chiropractic technique. It is taught in all chiropractic colleges. The late Otto Reinert, D.C. of Logan College of Chiropractic refined Diversified Technique to address specific biomechanical failures in the spine. Biomechanical restrictions are identified by motion palpation, allowing for a precise identification of the site and direction of the biomechanical spinal joint restriction. Diversified Technique’s manual thrusts utilize specific lines of drive and controlled force in correcting the biomechanical failure in the spine. The specific application of a Diversified Technique’s adjustment allows a deeper thrust to be given, which often produces an osseous (popping) sound as the adjustment is given. The technique also addresses extremity joint restrictions, making it useful for addressing sports, and other, injuries.

Flexion-Distraction

Flexion-Distraction chiropractic technique was developed by Dr James Cox, and utilizes a specially designed chiropractic table to administer the adjustment. The table flexes-or bends- in a specific manner, allowing the doctor to gently and safely release joint restrictions and restore biomechanical integrity to the spine. Because the technique gently “stretches” or decompresses the spine in a controlled manner, it is particularly useful for cases of spinal degeneration and spinal disc injuries that do not require surgical intervention.

Logan Basic Technique

Founder H.B. Logan started Logan College of Chiropractic in 1935 and is the developer of Logan Basic chiropractic technique. Logan Basic is a chiropractic technique that utilizes light force manipulation and postural analysis for the correction of spinal dysfunction. Its system of body mechanics incorporates the analysis of pelvic and spinal distortions as they relate to sacral (tailbone) subluxation. A sacral adjustment is performed utilizing a light contact (4-10 ounces) on the sacrum (tailbone) and auxiliary contacts at spinal subluxations. The adjustment corrects the sacral subluxation and corrects irregular body mechanics. Patients consistently report a sense of deep relaxation following a Logan Basic adjustment. The technique is extremely useful in cases where a more vigorous adjustment is contraindicated, for instance, in osteoporosis.

Toftness

The Toftness chiropractic system was developed by I.N.Toftness, D.C., PhC., and is a neurological means of analysis for detecting spinal subluxations and neurological imbalances. Dr. Toftness noticed that a resistance was encountered whenever he passed his hands over an area of the spine were there were problems. He subsequently developed an instrument called a Radiation Detector that amplified these resistances back to the doctor. Using the instrument the doctor can find spinal restrictions and neurological imbalances. By applying light, sustained force to the offending vertebra in a specific direction, confirmed by the instrument, the spinal restriction releases and the resistance disappears. The technique is extremely useful in cases where a more vigorous adjustment is contraindicated, for instance, in osteoporosis.

Sacro Occipital Technique

Sacro Occipital Technique is a whole body technique that focuses on the structural stability and integrity of the pelvis and skull as well as neurological function. The physical structures of the body, including the skeleton and internal organs, are controlled by the brain, which in turn is influenced by the optimal motion and alignment of the cranial (skull) bones and cranial dura. Therefore, the alignment, balance and optimum function of the skull, pelvis, and spine are essential to optimum health.

Adjunctive Therapies

At Addante Chiropractic we employ a multitude of adjunctive therapies to support the chiropractic adjustment and accelerate healing. The value of the specific application of these therapies has been clinically proven.

Interferential Current: Interferential Current, or IFC, is used to stimulate blood circulation and promote healing, decrease swelling, decrease muscle spasm, and provide pain relief by stimulating the production of endorphins and enkephalins, your body’s natural pain-killers. It typically creates a mild ‘buzzing’ sensation during treatment.

Graston® Technique Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization: Graston® is a unique form of soft tissue mobilization that quickly and effectively breaks down fibrotic soft tissue adhesions and scar tissue that can severely impact your body’s freedom of movement. It is extremely effective in treating tendon and ligament injuries such as tennis elbow, as well as fascial adhesions that can create pain from faulty movement and postural patterns.

Spinal Decompression Therapy: Spinal decompression has been clinically proven to help relieve chronic or acute low back pain and sciatica resulting from disc injuries or spinal degeneration. Spinal decompression is also effective for treating neck and arm pain arising from the same causes. Decompression is rapidly becoming the non-surgical standard of care for specific spinal conditions.

Spinal Rehabilitation: Rehabilitation and stabilization of a spinal injury is absolutely crucial to obtaining long-term results from treatment. At Addante Chiropractic we have developed advanced rehab protocols to achieve the highest level of tissue healing and spinal stabilization possible. This advanced treatment is available exclusively at Addante Chiropractic.

Ultrasound: Ultrasound uses sound waves to penetrate the skin and provide deep heat to tissue. It is useful for treating muscle spasm, joint contractures such as those found in osteoarthritis, and soft tissue injuries.

Low Level Laser: Low level laser is clinically proven to accelerate tissue repair and regeneration, reduce inflammation, increase immunity and free radical defense. Violet laser is FDA cleared for treatment of acne and oncyomycosis.

Neurological Rehabilitation: Functional Neurology is a highly specialized field that utilizes active  research-based rehabilitative strategies to address functional disorders of the brain and nervous system that arise from injury or disease. NeuroAcupuncture & Chinese Medicine: The doctors at Addante Chiropractic  are trained in classical and contemporary Chinese medicine, and are skilled in treating a wide variety of health conditions, including the highly specialized NeuroAcupuncture.
